GOAL High School Named a 2026 National Top Remote Workplace
GOAL High School has been named a 2026 National Top Remote Workplace. The award is based entirely on employee feedback gathered through Energage’s nationally recognized workplace survey.
The recognition highlights GOAL’s commitment to building a workplace culture based on trust, flexibility, teamwork, and support while helping students succeed across Colorado.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from our employees. At GOAL High School, we work to give our staff the trust, flexibility, and support they need to succeed while staying connected to one another and to the students who count on us,” said Ron Vigil Senior Director of Human Resources
As one of Colorado’s largest alternative education campuses, GOAL serves students through a flexible learning model that combines online learning with in-person support opportunities across the state. That same flexibility is offered to employees, giving them the tools and support they need to stay connected and do their best work. Many employees say GOAL’s culture of trust and independence is one of its greatest strengths.
“GOAL puts an emphasis on bolstering the individual’s contribution. There’s a lot of freedom that’s given so that we can organize our days and our workflow in a way that we’re the most productive. That freedom and trust really allows you, decide what to work on to be most productive,” said Roxie Mitchell, Academic Coordinator of the Education Technology (EdTech) Department.
Employees also point to GOAL’s unique approach to online education. The school combines flexibility with strong relationships and support for students.
“Having been an online student before, a thing I notice, both from the student perspective and the staff perspective, is that we’re all really encouraged to show our personalities to be like a human online,” said Megan Bennett, EdTech TOSA. “I think that relationship building and that culture emphasis makes me feel like I am not alone in my office right now.”
While many schools continue to explore how technology can support learning and workplace flexibility, GOAL has intentionally built systems that help students and staff stay connected regardless of location.
“We’re able to reach students anywhere in Colorado; a student could be just about anywhere in Colorado, and we’re able to reach them with our remote tools and help them succeed,” said Kyle Van Acker, Director of Infrastructure Services. “As long as the student can access internet, we’re able to make sure that they’re successful and they can move forward.”
“There are a lot of employees that want to be in education, and they want a modern workplace, and there’s not a lot of opportunities out there. And that’s why I think you see GOAL rising to the top of that in terms of employment, because they’re putting those two things together,” said Roxie Mitchell, Academic Coordinator.
The school’s culture is strengthened through regular opportunities for collaboration, professional growth, and employee feedback. Leaders review staff feedback from the Energage survey each year and use it to drive continuous improvement.
“Year over year, when we started the Energage survey, the point was to hear what anonymously our staff felt,” said Ron Vigil, Senior Director of Human Resources. “What I’m proud about is that every year we do this survey, we get more opportunities to improve based on feedback. Our leaders meet and look at it in detail and address those issues.”
Employees say the combination of flexibility, strong relationships, and a modern work environment have made GOAL a destination for educators looking to make a difference.
“For me, it goes back to our culture,” Bennett said. “So many of the people that I collaborate with here at GOAL have been here for a long time and plan to stay here for longer. That is because regardless of whether we are physically located in a site with our colleagues or we’re remote, our expectations for collaboration, our expectations for collegiality are the same.”
“A strong workplace culture takes intentional effort, especially when employees work across different locations and remotely throughout Colorado. We listen to our staff, invest in our leaders, and keep our mission front and center. Supporting our people helps them deliver their best to our students.”
