GOAL Principal Featured at School Choice Week

Denver, CO — GOAL High School proudly participated in School Choice Week at the Colorado State Capitol, where Dr. Derek Staves, Principal of GOAL’s Denver Region, was one of the distinguished speakers. Representing one of six GOAL regions that collectively serve students statewide, Dr. Staves highlighted the school’s commitment to flexible, student centered- education and its mission of ensuring every learner has pathways that meet their unique needs.

In his remarks, Dr. Staves reminded attendees to “not forget that the reason why we are here… is for the children of the state of Colorado. This is why we’re here.” He emphasized the power of educational choice in empowering students and families to select environments where they can excel and praised GOAL’s dedicated staff for their continued impact.

Staves also brought to life student voices, including Mia from Colorado Springs, who he quoted from her 2025 commencement. “If there is one thing GOAL has taught me, it’s that it’s never too late.” Her words reflected the opportunities GOAL provides to learners across the state, many times providing the much needed “reset” button in a student’s education.

The event underscored GOAL’s leadership in 21st century education and its role in expanding meaningful options for Colorado students… successful options.
